Ume Camp Village （うめキャンプ村）

Right by the bridge, you can find this beautiful camp site! They have restaurants, a shop where you can buy local vegatables. They also have a camp site for car campers and cabins.
Car camping : 2,000 - 3,000 yen depending on the season.
Cabins : 8,000 - 30,000 yen depending on the size and season.

橋のすぐ側にはうめキャンプ村があります。道の駅もありレストランや農林産物直売所がります。キャンプ村は緑に溢れオートキャンプとキャビン（ケビン）がありました。
オートキャンプ：　2,000～3,000円　季節により異なる。
キャビン：　8,000～30,000　季節及びキャビンの大きさにより異なります。

Fujikawachi Ravine （藤河内渓谷）

After a good cup of coffee, my original plan was to head back but I had a little chat with a local farmer and he recommended to head down to Fujikawachi Ravine.

美味しいコーヒーを頂いた後、来た道を引き返すつもりでしたが、近所の農夫に藤河内渓谷をすすめられたのでそのまま直進！出発お進行


Shortly after leaving the coffee shop, I came across a small public bath spot where you can take natural mineral water for free. ( Must have your own container). Immediately after leaving this facility, I took a left to the ravine.

途中、木浦名水館と言う場所に立ち寄りました。タダで美味しい水が汲めるし、湯にも入れるそうです。その先を左折。

After driving for about 20 min. I started to get worried because the street was getting pretty narrow and there were a LOT of rocks and stones all over the road. My car is not made for off road and I'm sure I have a few scratches on the bottom of my car.

道をさらに20分ほど進むと道幅は狭くなり、大小の石や岩が無数に道に散らばっていました。僕の車はオフロード仕様では無いし、車高が低い為、石が下を削る音を数回聞きました。　（助けて！）

After I safely drove over the narrow mountain pass, I took a right before heading to the main road. Found a small parking area with a sign written "Bungalow E". I parked my car and walked down to the Bungalow and found a beautiful river.

更に先に進むとT字に突き当たり右折、しばらくするとバンガローＥと言う看板を発見。そちらのパーキングに車を止め階段を下ると素敵な光景に出会いました。

Right in front of the Cat Bus and the Totoro Forest you can find a nice restaurant. After driving for more than an hour, I was craving for some caffeine.

猫バスの前には素敵なカフェ＆レストラン発見！一時間以上ドライブした後はやっぱりコーヒーで一休み！

You can find Totoro and other related characters inside and outside the restaurant.

レストランの前やお店のなかにもトトロ関連キャラクターがいっぱい。

The owner was a former Japanese teacher who taught Japanese in Australia.

オーナーは以前オーストラリアで日本語の教師をしていたそうです。

The owner is also a Deer hunter and he serves a special Deer Hayashi Rice (Hashed Deer Rice).

Unfortunately, I had a late breakfast so I didn't try it but I will soon!

オーナーは鹿狩りも行っているそうです。そこでこちらのオススメメニューは鹿のハヤシライスだそうです。朝ごはんを遅く食べたので今回は食べませんでしたが次回は必ず食べて感想を記載します。

Totoro Forest

You can find a small area named "Totoro Forest" near the Cat Bus. You can find a bunch of Totoros made of stone or cement.

トトロの森に潜入！！セメントで作ったトトロがたくさん住んでいます。

Cat Bus （猫バス）

I took a ride in the Cat Bus!! 150m further down the road, you can find the "Cat Bus".

If you haven't watched "My. Neighbor Totoro", I would like to recommend this animation movie! Mr. Hayao Miyazaki is a brilliant Japanese artist and director.

This bus stop is actually being used by Oita Bus Company.

実際に使用されているバス停です。（夜は猫バスに出会えるかも。。。）

June 5th, 2010 - I woke up early and decided to take a drive to see the Totoro bus stop. The true Totoro area is located in Saitama Prefecture but in Kyushu we also have an area named "Totoro" located in Saiki city (Ume town). It wasn't difficult to find but the roads are quite narrow around here so be careful.

6月5日　佐伯市宇目町にある“トトロ”と言う地名のトトロのバス停までドライブしました。実際は埼玉県のととろという場所がアニメの舞台モデルになっているらしいがこのバス停と周りの自然に囲まれると“トトロ”が出るような気配を感じる魅力的な場所です。
